Low-temperature wheat in spring to make up potassium

The survey found that due to the low ground temperature in spring this year, the return of green wheat in the region was delayed by 10 days compared with previous years, and the first quarter of wheat was longer than before, while the second quarter had not grown well and the stem was soft. Winter wheat has 12 to 16 sections, and the second quarter is the key. Technicians worry that if this continues, hot dry weather will be introduced in June, which may cause large areas of wheat lodging, seriously affecting wheat production and quality.

According to further investigation by experts, this phenomenon is relatively common in Handan City, Hebei Province. It is recommended that the majority of farmers in the winter wheat region should pay high attention to it. If emergency measures are taken within one week, this problem can still be alleviated.

Experts proposed specific measures: spraying 30 kg of a 1% potassium nitrate solution on wheat leaves, spraying once more for 3 to 5 days after the first spraying, and the effect is better. The direct cost of spraying potassium nitrate is around RMB 1/mu, with less investment and significant results. At present, the agricultural administrative department and the agricultural technology promotion unit of Handan City, Hebei Province, have taken actions to inform the farmers of spraying potassium fertilizer according to the recommendations of the soil and fertilizer experts.

Experts pointed out that the problem of low-temperature wheat growth in spring this year is to give farmers the following recommendations for the future fertilization of winter wheat: In the past, the one-time application of potassium fertilizer in the base fertilizer can be used for half of the time from the late stage of wheat application to the initial stage of jointing, mainly spraying potassium nitrate once. It can replace paclobutrazol (a kind of hormone), and it also ensures the requirement of nitrogen and potassium for wheat during this period.
